The Institute holds annual reading groups on specific themes, in which doctoral students or post-docs meet with junior and senior researchers who guide the group. Those interested in joining are asked to contact the office of the Institute before the start of the academic year.
In the 2010-2011 academic year, the reading group focused on the topic, “Picture and Image: The dialectic in German-Jewish work” under the direction of Prof. Galili Shahar from Tel Aviv University.
In the 2009-2010 academic year, the reading group focused on the writings of Hermann Cohen under the guidance of Prof. Gideon Freudenthal.
The year before, the reading group led by Prof. Yossi Mali focused on the writings of Walter Benjamin.
Course in Gothic and Suetterlin manuscripts:
The Institute offered a course on reading Suetterlin and Gothic scripts, which prevailed in Germany until the 20th century. The course was mainly directed at researchers and graduate students who are required to read texts in Gothic or Suetterlin as part of their research and the work of their archives.
