The International Summer Research Workshop of the Leo Baeck Institute Jerusalem is held every two years in the form of ongoing research seminars for three weeks. The format of this workshop was designed by the late Prof. Robert Liberles who also convened the pilot workshop in 2009. This innovative and especially productive academic activity format invites senior scholars from abroad and Israel as well as junior scholars to come together in Jerusalem during the summer break for intensive discussions on their fields of research. Participants meet for internal seminars, at which they mutually present their research. In addition there are events for larger audiences.
The aims of the workshop are:
- Bring together scholars whose research is in related areas to a common theme within the domain of the Institute, encourage the networking among them and the creation of a international research community
- Contribute to the quality of research and to the collegiality of the research process among our colleagues from Israel and abroad and to make its own unique contribution to the international activities of the Leo Baeck Institute Jerusalem
- Attract groups of scholars to work on specific themes and to take advantage of the rich academic resources available at the institute and throughout Jerusalem and make them more easily available to our colleagues from abroad.
